SHOW ME THE MONEY!
A Look at High Paying Paralegal Positions
Contributed by Chere B. Estrin

hire a corporate paralegal for the firm and had just lost the
candidate to another major firm who outbid her...

THE SHOW MUST GO ON
Evaluating the bright lights of a new job while gracefully
closing the curtain on an old one. By Brad Baber
It has been said that the average American worker spends
a third of his or her life at work, a third sleeping and another
third doing everything else. Knowing this, my advice is to invest
in a comfortable mattress and get a good job. And by good job,
I mean one that is personally fulfilling and financially rewarding...

Ten Reasons to Belong to a Paralegal
Professional Organization
|
1) • Receive updates about changing
conditions in the legal profession, both locally and
nationally.
2) • Get informed about new developments
in the paralegal profession (changes in job requirements,
current status of “issues” within the paralegal profession,
new resources for legal research, etc.
3) • Network with your peers. Meet
nice people who share a common interest with you, who
offer an opportunity to interact socially with people
who can relate to what you do, and who might just know
of a job opportunity or two (if and when you might happen
to be looking).

Welcome to the official webs ite
of the New York City Paralegal Association, newly incorporated
on May 25, 2007 . It is an exciting time to be a paralegal,
especially in such an exhilarating and highly energized
city like New York . The paralegal industry is thriving
with professionals practicing at law firms, working
for corporate legal departments and even for government
agencies. There is a growing field of accredited paralegal
programs being offered, and according to the US Department
of Labor, ours is a fast growing and progressive career,
with the more experienced and formally trained paralegals
being able to secure the best employment opportunities.
We have worked very hard at making
this website an informative medium for our current members
as well as for potential members. There are multiple
links containing more detailed information about our
organization, as well as many useful resources such
as a viable job bank, links to our national association,
directories of trusted vendors as well as an online
version of our membership application. Our official
newsletter – the NYC Paralegal Times is also available
on our site, and contains interesting articles and information
on upcoming events.
For our members we have also created
an online forum through which paralegals and paralegal
students can connect and network – discussing topics
of interests, exchanging questions and advice as well
as giving word first hand of potential job openings.
This forum is currently being hosted through yahoo groups,
and is available to current members only.
Our Association's objective is to provide
our members with networking opportunities, valuable
career information as well as professional support in
the form of Continuing Legal Education classes and exposure
to conventions and seminars that will promote their
professional advancement within their current position
as well as to improve the job prospects for those seeking
a more challenging paralegal experience.
We look forward to welcoming you as
a member of our Association and I invite you to fill
out the membership form enclosed on the website and
send it in, or contact our Membership Chairperson Jessica M. Mieles for further
information. We also encourage our existing members
to join one of our many committees and take an active
part in making this association a viable and relevant
medium for paralegal professionals in the New York City
area and environs.
Sincerely,
Shaun J. Pilcher, President
