CUNY CITIZENSHIP NOW!
Temporary Protected Status Event for Haitians

RESCHEDULED

Saturday, November 10th, 2012
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Brooklyn, NY

Dear Volunteers,

We hope you and your families are safe.  If you were fortunate enough to have avoided the turmoil caused by the storm, we and the  Haitian community would greatly appreciate any help that you can lend at our November 10, 2012 Haitian TPS Application Assistance Event.

The deadline for TPS re-registration is fast approaching and there are many Haitians in the community whose livelihood depends on obtaining the work authorization granted to those who receive TPS.  In the midst of Sandy's aftermath, we are concerned about a low turnout of volunteers.  We want to ensure that Haitians get the help they need to re-register for TPS and renew their work permits.

As most of you know, Haiti was designated as a country whose citizens are eligible for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) in early 2010, after the earthquake in Haiti.  It was designated again in 2011.  Now they have to re-register for this relief.

Now is your chance to be a part of this important process.  The Legal Aid Society and CUNY Citizenship Now have partnered to provide assistance to Haitians on Saturday, November 10th, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  We plan to serve up to 400 applicants! With such a large group, we could really use your support.

We are inviting you to help at the following stations: registration, application assistance, fee waivers, photos, and copies, and with event flow.  Attorneys and paralegals experienced with TPS are also needed to help with screening and checkout.

Please, if you have knowledge of Creole or know somebody who does, encourage them to volunteer with us on this day!  We are very much in need of Creole interpreters and translators.

A registration link for this event can be found below.  Please be sure to RSVP by clicking the appropriate link. You must RSVP so that we can send you your station assignment in advance and provide you with vital information regarding this event.

Once you have registered, you will be sent a confirmation e-mail and links to preparation materials that cover the application process and the procedures for this event.  Please make sure to arrive by 9 a.m. as we will be conducting a volunteer training from 9-10 a.m.

With your assistance, we know the day can run smoothly and we can ensure that we help all participants. Thank you for your continued commitment to CUNY Citizenship Now!
