Utility Rights and Older Adults

When: Wednesday, September 26th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. PT / 2:00 p.m. ET.

Utility disconnections are a widespread problem for low-income older adults. Utility vulnerability can place older adults in dangerous situations and threaten their health and safety. This webcast will provide an overview of utility rights and programs to help older adults retain their utility connections.

The webcast will include an overview of different state rules that may protect older adults from termination of electricity and natural gas service, and how to apply. The presenter will also describe programs that can help to reduce utility bills for eligible consumers, such as the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and the federal Weatherization Assistance Program.

Closed captioning will be available on this webcast. A link with access to the captions will be shared through GoToWebinar’s chat box shortly before the webcast start time.

Presenter:

  • Jenifer Bosco, Staff Attorney, National Consumer Law Center

NOTE: This training will be presented in a WEBCAST format to accommodate more participants. Due to the high volume of participants, computer audio will be the only option to listen to the presentation. No telephone call-in number will be provided. Please plan accordingly. Thank you.
