Advocating for Durable Medical Equipment Coverage for Clients

Tuesday September 27
2016

In this session, you'll learn about Durable Medical Equipment, what it is, how it is paid for, and how to appeal a denial for coverage. You will leave this training with a robust understanding of DME, how it can be paid for, and the Medicaid administrative review process.

This training will be particularly helpful for health, disability, public benefits, and HIV advocates.

Christy Asbee from Disability Rights New York will first detail what DME is and how to obtain a device. Then, she'll explain DME coverage requirements for Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, and other funding avenues, and cover the role a vendor can play in the process. In the final hour, you'll learn useful skills, tips, and tricks to process a prior approval for DME, and appeal a denial of Medicaid coverage for a prescribed device.
