Temporary Protected Status Legal Clinic On August 25, 2015, the Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson, announced his decision to extend Haiti’s designation for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for an additional 18 months. Haiti was initially designated for TPS on January 21, 2010, after a major earthquake devastated the country. Following consultations with other federal agencies, the Department of Homeland Security has determined that current conditions in Haiti support extending the designation period for current TPS beneficiaries. This decision means that current TPS Haiti beneficiaries seeking to extend their TPS status must re-register during a 60-day period that runs from August 25, 2015 through October 26, 2015. NYLAG is partnering with Council Member Mathieu Eugene to provide application assistance for nationals of Haiti who are seeking to extend their TPS. At this clinic, NYLAG will be providing information about Haiti TPS and clinic volunteers are needed to assist with completing applications with attendees. Haitian-Creole language skills are appreciated. NYLAG staff will be on site to provide direct supervision of volunteers.
