Medicare Rights Center
Hotline Volunteers: Volunteers based in New York City offices, assist people with Medicare through one-on-one telephone counseling. Volunteers answer caller’s questions, and provide guidance on Medicare issues including how to enroll in a supplemental plan, and how to appeal when a medication has been denied. Hotline Volunteers also help callers help enroll in health programs that pay for health coverage, and help process Medicare applications. Hotline volunteers help ensure their clients’ rights are upheld, and make referrals when needed.
Seniors Speaking on Medicare (SOS Medicare) Volunteers: Volunteers visit senior centers, religious institutions, public housing projects, clubs, and other sites throughout New York City, and Westchester, New York. At each visit, they present a "Medicare Minute", a short lecture, one half hour presentation about an important health care topic,. They also provide Medicare counseling.
Commitment:
This non-profit is looking for volunteers to make a six month commitment, at least four hours or more a week.
Open House Meeting: The next Volunteer Open House meetings will be held on August 18th during the daytime in New York City: To give you a comprehensive understanding of the volunteer opportunities available at the Medicare Rights Center, the non-profit asks that you attend an initial Open House meeting. During this meeting you will learn about the various ways in which volunteers contribute to our work. We hope by the end of this meeting, you will find a position that best suits your interests and schedule. Most importantly, we hope to be able to answer all of the questions you may have about volunteering with the Medicare Rights Center.
