NYIC VISTA: Seeking Volunteer Applicants

NYIC VISTA Overview

NYIC VISTAs are AmeriCorps VISTAs who - through the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) - engage in a year of full-time paraprofessional service in an organization, where they work on volunteer management, communications, fundraising and/or administrative system projects for the purpose of building the organization's capacity to implement immigrant-focused anti-poverty programs and services.

The NYIC is currently seeking applicants for NYIC VISTA positions that its Member organizations will be hosting from November 21, 2015 to November 19, 2016. Candidates who have previously served as a VISTA may be able to start in these positions earlier. The positions will be supported with:

  • an AmeriCorps VISTA Pre-Service Orientation (November 17 - 20, 2015)
  • a NYIC VISTA 3-day training (November 23-25, 2015)
  • Monthly professional development/networking webinars
  • Monthly check-ins with NYIC staff
  • Networking opportunities with other NYIC VISTAs
  • Living allowance (stipend)
  • Healthcare allowance
  • Option of an end-of-year stipend or education award
  • And more!

  2. Use the site's search tool to find the NYIC VISTA positions that you are interested in or click on the appropriate hyperlinks in the following section of this message. For NYIC VISTA position searches, set Program TypeState and Program Name to "AmeriCorps VISTA", "New York" and "NYIC" respectively.
  3. Click on the "Apply Now" button for any position that you want to apply to. *

* In order to be eligible for an AmeriCorps VISTA position, one must be a U.S. citizen, national or legal permanent resident.

 
Open NYIC VISTA Positions

The NYIC is currently seeking individuals to fill the following NYIC VISTA positions. Click on the hyperlinks below to learn more details about each individual position and the organization that it would be placed in. 

Lower Hudson Valley:

  • Volunteer Management VISTA @ Community Voices Heard (CVH) - The VISTA placed at CVH will work on volunteer management (e.g., recruiting, training and managing volunteers focused on community assessments, community meetings, and educational workshops) and fundraising projects (e.g., large and small events, solicitation mailings). This capacity-building work will support CVH in being able to connect low-income immigrants to legal services (e.g., screenings/consultations, representation) that will support their access to economic opportunity. The VISTA's position will be based in Westchester, New York.
  • Communications VISTA @ Westchester Hispanic Coalition (WHC) - The VISTA placed at WHC will work on communications (e.g., social media, website management) and outreach to organizations and companies for partnerships and/or financial support. This capacity-building work will support WHC in engaging low-income immigrants it engages in job training and/or skill development services, such as ESOL classes. The VISTA's position will be based in Westchester, New York.

New York City: 

  • Development VISTA @ Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York (KCS) - The VISTA placed at KCS will work on fundraising (e.g., grant applications, large and small events, a solicitation mailing) and communications (e.g., social media, blog articles, website updates, press releases). This capacity-building work will support KCS in engaging low-income immigrants in job training or skill development services such as ESOL classes.
